Harvest Moon Folk Society is a community of musicians, dancers, and dance callers whose mission is to promote, sponsor, and encourage participation in folk and traditional dance for people in and around upstate SC. We hold several public contra dances each month at River Falls Lodge in northern Greenville county, SC, near Jones Gap State Park.
Almost from the beginning of our organization we have encouraged and engaged in recycling and waste reduction activities. For years we have recycled at our Moondance festival by setting up separate containers for cardboard, metal, plastic, glass and food scraps. The installation of water fountains at River Falls Lodge and our encouragement that dancers bring reusable water containers has greatly reduced both paper and plastic materials discarded after dances. Due to the remote location of River Falls Lodge, we encourage dancers to car-pool, both to save fuel and to reduce over-crowding in the parking areas
